Black Friday checklist: make AI shoppers work for your Shopify store

Short answer

Before Black Friday / Cyber Monday, AI shoppers (ChatGPT, Muse, and similar agents) will hit more stores looking for products, checkout help, and order status. Shopify’s defaults cover a lot of browse → cart → checkout handoff — but not reliable in-chat “Where’s my order?”, returns, or clean variant matching when product data is thin. A one-week readiness pass plus a free Agent View scan beats a generic checklist alone.

Why BFCM makes this operational (not hype)

Peak season multiplies:

  • Support volume (especially WISMO — “Where’s my order?”)
  • Wrong-variant and return pressure
  • Popups, apps, and scripts that slow or hide tools agents look for early in the page load

You do not need invented traffic percentages to act. If agents send shoppers to login walls or the wrong size, tickets rise when you can least afford them. Readiness here means fewer dead ends — not a guaranteed AI sales spike.

What Shopify already covers (high level)

For many theme storefronts, agents can often:

  • Search or browse products
  • Fill a cart
  • Hand the shopper toward checkout

That is useful. It is also incomplete for peak ops.

What still breaks under peak load

“Where’s my order?” still becomes a ticket

Default order tools often push history/sign-in links. The agent cannot give a clean status answer → the shopper emails you.

Returns still need a human

If there’s no return tool that matches your policy, the agent escalates. Peak returns amplify that.

Variants stuck in description text

Color in the title, size only in the body, material as adjectives — agents guess. Wrong shipments and exchanges follow.

Late-loading tools and popups

Some agent browsers only look for store tools for a short window after load. Promo modals and delayed scripts can hide tools that work for a patient human.

Headless / Hydrogen

If you skipped Online Store defaults, you may be starting from further behind. A public-page scan still shows what’s missing.

A one-week readiness pass (prioritize)

  1. Run a free Agent View scan on your live URL — get a store-specific report in one business day (scan form).
  2. Read a sample report so you know the shape of findings: EXAMPLE sample (real public Shopify URL used for illustration — labeled EXAMPLE, not a client).
  3. Fix product options that agents must filter (size/color/material as real options, not paragraph text).
  4. Decide WISMO / returns scope: DIY tool, audit plan, or wait until after BFCM if capacity is gone — be honest about what you can ship.
  5. Kill or delay popups that cover the first paint during agent checks; confirm tools appear without a human click marathon.
  6. Policy pages agents can read (shipping, returns) — clear and public.
  7. Re-scan after changes if you change theme apps or tool scripts before the peak weekend.

This is a prioritization list, not a promise that every store finishes all seven before November.

Free Agent View scan: what you’ll get before BFCM

Send store URL + email. We check public pages only. Report within one business day:

  • What works
  • What’s missing
  • Three suggested tools with suggested code

No installation. No admin access. No obligation to buy.

Optional: when the $490 audit is worth it

Choose the audit when the free report shows gaps and you want a written plan (top tools, catalog/policy fixes, 30-day sequence). Founding audit pricing is credited in full toward a build. Request via the scan form (?service=audit); invoice path is honest: Payoneer payment request (invoice in 2h) — not a pretend instant card checkout.

Skip the audit if you only need the free diagnostic or you already have an internal build queue.

Questions people ask (and honest answers)

What can AI shoppers already do on Shopify?
Often browse, cart, and checkout handoff. Post-purchase support in chat is the usual gap.

What can’t they do by default?
Reliable in-chat order tracking and returns; perfect matching when options aren’t structured.

How do I check my store before Black Friday?
Free Agent View scan — convertwebmcp.com/scan.

Do I need to install an app for a check?
No.

Will this guarantee BFCM sales from AI?
No. Aim for fewer tickets and fewer dead ends. Sales from agents are a target, not a commitment we can make for your store.

Under the hood (short)

Agents call storefront tools. Wiring those correctly is build work. Before BFCM, merchants should answer the buyer question first: what can an AI shopper do on my store today? Then schedule builds around peak — not during it if you can avoid it.
